Halloween Movies, Theater, and Entertainment Near Near South Side 2026

Treat it as an endurance event: eat a real meal beforehand, alternate caffeine with water, and use the intermissions to walk and stretch rather than doomscroll in your seat. Bring a hoodie, since theaters cool down overnight, plus eye drops and a snack stash within the venue's rules. Arrange the ride home in advance; nobody makes good transit decisions at 4 am.

Stricter than movies: immersive and small-house productions often require phones fully off or pouched, since a lit screen wrecks a blackout scene for the whole room, and some ghost tours-turned-shows ban recording of performers outright. Photo moments, when offered, are announced. Silence it before entering, not during the first scare, and take the no-phone hour as part of the atmosphere.

Libraries, parks departments, campuses, museums, and breweries all run October screenings that are free or under ten dollars, and they're published in early October on community calendars rather than movie apps. Free events are first-come seating, so arrive 30-plus minutes early with your own blanket or chairs. Quality tip: outdoor classics and family monster matinees are where the free tier shines.
